Excellence in Hillingdon -

High quality training, development and professional networks for leaders, teachers and educators in the London Borough of Hillingdon
Supporting Education in Hillingdon
The Hillingdon Learning Partnership was created in September 2022 because schools wanted to work more effectively together, to offer training and support that has a clear focus on the needs of Hillingdon schools. The journey to that point was a long one and not without its bumps, indeed we are still growing and developing. Ultimately we all believe that schools are stronger when they collaborate rather than compete. It is this principle that underpins our work.
The Hillingdon Learning Partnership views itself as the glue that helps bind the schools together and offers a framework of training and development from high quality providers that supports school improvement.
We take a multifaceted approach to this, always having a number of strands available to school leaders so they can select what they need. We aim to grow capacity and leadership opportunities for staff at all levels and across all sectors. We offer the opportunity to create Professional Learning Networks that share good practice and develop collaborative working. We offer focussed training led by high quality providers. This approach is both innovative and pioneering.
Over 90% of the HLP work is funded directly by schools and therefore the accountability for delivery of the provision is to member schools via the HLP Board, which meets five times a year and has representatives from all sectors who help shape the offer to schools .
Indeed, research tends to suggest that the traditional school improvement strategies of creating a self-improving institution, creating school networks and alliances, and benchmarking against best practice is the key to improvement. The HLP is designed to create those opportunities in partnership with schools.
Our offer reflects our ambition that all schools in Hillingdon are always wanting to improve, so that life chances for all children and young people in the Borough are enhanced.
We recognise that schools have a responsibility for their own improvement and for making the best use of the resources available to them. We believe that a strong partnership between schools and the HLP can be a valuable factor in supporting schools and the pupils be the best they can be.

- Well done to Nic and Billie and all of the staff at William Byrd Academy who are the first Hillingdon school to receive a qualification for your EAL practice.
- The EAL Quality Mark has been awarded to the school on their achievements in meeting the needs of pupils learning English as an additional language.

It will also assist leaders in identifying areas for further development through the school improvement process.
